With the chance to move within touching distance of the European spots, Verona will mark their return when they welcome Cagliari to town on Saturday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Verona would have been bitterly disappointed to have seen their unbeaten run come to an end away at Sampdoria prior to the break, the Serie A returns are enjoying a stellar campaign. Marking their return sat four points adrift of the European spots, Head Coach Ivan Jurić has seen his side lose just a single top-flight appearance since December 7th. Including snatching points off of both Lazio and AC Milan prior to the break, Verona should also be boosted by what was a famous last showing on home soil. Shocking almost everyone across Europe after picking up a stunning 2-1 win at home against defending champions Juventus, there is no doubt that the Serie A’s surprise package should be confident of marking their return with what could be a crucial three points this weekend.

As for the visitors, entering the enforced break with a dramatic 4-3 defeat against Roma on home soil, it has been nothing short of a disastrous second half of the year for Cagliari. Losing each of their last three Serie A matchups on the spin, they have remarkably failing to land a single victory across any competition since the start of December. Freefalling out of the top half and enduring what was a woeful run of form at the back, one-time Wolves boss Walter Zenga has seen his men continue to show some glaring problems on the road. Hit with a 1-0 defeat away at Genoa in their last contest away from the Sardegna Arena, Gli Isolani have failed to land a win on their travels since November 3rd. Winning just one of their previous five meetings against Saturday’s hosts, we’re backing a tough return for a struggling Cagliari this weekend.
