Volkan suspended for two matches

Turkey will have to do the quarter final and possibly the semi final without first choice goalkeeper Volkan Demirel.

Demirel was red-carded during the match with the Czech Republic, following a foul on striker Jan Koller. Turkey had already used all substitutions at that point, and Tuncay Sanli had to finish the game between the posts.

UEFA today announced that Volkan – his player name – has been suspended for two matches and will have to miss out on the quarter final clash with Croatia.

Fortunately for the Turks, their second goalkeeper Rüstü Reçber is arguably the most experienced keeper in Turkey.

If Turkey are to make it to the semi finals, Rüstü will continue to represent his team against Germany or Portugal.
