Warnock: I could’ve had Van Dijk

“Virgil Van Dijk – I’m delighted he’s playing like he is. We could have bought him at Crystal Palace for £6m but my chief scout told me he was too slow. I think he’s still in a job as well!”

This is the latest revelation of Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock, who has claimed that he could’ve purchased Virgil Van Dijk during his time at Selhurst Park.

Cardiff are coming off the back of a morale boosting win over Fulham, as they also look ahead to what is sure to be a tough rest of the Premier League campaign. Van Dijk, on the other hand, is arguably one of the best defenders in Europe right now, and is set to play an integral role in helping Liverpool to compete not only in the Premier League but also in the Champions League.

Who knows where he could’ve wound up had he made that jump to Palace.
