Midweek Premier League games are always fun and we’d argue there should even be more of them. Case and point: this really, really fun game between Watford and Manchester City. The Hornets were always going to have their back up against the wall against a team of City’s quality, and the champions certainly gave them everything they had. In the end, despite Watford throwing the kitchen sink at Pep Guardiola’s men, the visitors came away with their seventh successive victory.

Early on it seemed as if it could be one of those days for City, with Ben Foster frustrating the Northerners courtesy of a string of good saves. Alas, they eventually got their breakthrough five minutes before the break, with Leroy Sane turning the ball in from Riyad Mahrez’s cross.

Mahrez scored at the back post to double their advantage, and with 70% of the possession, it seemed as if they were going to ride out the win without all too many complications. Alas, that wasn’t to be the case, with Doucoure scrambling the ball in with five minutes remaining.

That set up the kind of finish we were all hoping to see in front of a lively Vicarage Road crowd, with Ben Foster even being sent up for a free kick in the dying minutes. Alas, it wasn’t to be for the hosts, as City held on for the win.

Watford will now travel to Goodison Park on Monday to take on Everton, as City travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.
