Looking to potentially leapfrog Melbourne City to second spot, a resurging Western United will make the trip to the Bankwest Stadium on Friday morning.

Starting with the hosts, putting in yet another worrying display and hit with a 2-0 loss away at fellow strugglers Perth last week, Western Sydney have since come crashing back down to earth after a bright start. Head Coach Markus Babbel finds his side enduring a five-match losing run in Australia’s top-tier and the mood around the Bankwest Stadium remains at a season-low. Freefalling out of the top-six, it will undoubtedly be their continued issues at the back giving Babbel the biggest headache. The hosts have shipped two or more goals in each of their previous five defeats and also shipped three goals against Melbourne City in their last appearance on home soil.

As for the visitors, landing back-to-back victories and dreaming of securing a maiden top-two finish next year, Western United have also won three of their opening four A-League matches on the road and the mood in Mark Rudan’s camp is once again on the rise. If Friday’s guests are to extend on their winning run this week then United will be calling for leading marksman Besart Berisha to lead their charge. Finding the net last week, the veteran striker has three in his last two appearances and should be relishing the chance to come up against a leaky Sydney defence. Also putting in a dominant display in their 2-0 victory over Brisbane last week, we’re backing another shock away victory on Friday.
