Hoping to find a route back into the automatic spots in midweek, Wigan will make the trip to the Abbey Stadium when they face off against Cambridge on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Cambridge might find themselves sat comfortably away from the drop zone after making their League One return earlier in the year, they are in the midst of a downbeat run of form. Really hoping not to get dragged into a scrap at the foot of the table, Mark Bonner’s men were last seen over the weekend putting in another flat display. Eventually hit with a 3-1 defeat away at Rotherham on Saturday, the U’s have lost three of their last four matchups across all formats. With that run highlighted by a shock 1-0 loss against Stevenage on EFL Trophy duties on November 9th, Cambridge have also shown some worrying issues at the back. Including a 4-1 drumming at the hands of MK Dons, Tuesday’s hosts have recorded just a pair of clean sheets from any of their last 14 straight appearances.

As for the visitors, eventually managing to extend on their FA Cup adventure away at National League outfit Solihull Moors last time out, Wigan should find the mood in their camp at a real high. While the Latics might have found themselves dealing with some real issues behind the scenes last season, there is no doubt that they have their sights set on securing a Championship return this time around. Knowing that even a single point on Tuesday could push them back into the automatic spots, Leam Richardson’s side are enjoying a five-match unbeaten run across all formats, winning four of those outings. Likewise, last seen on League One duties landing an action-packed 3-2 win against Fleetwood Town on the road, Wigan have collected nine points from their last four third-tier contests.
