Will David Beckham be returning to the Premier League?

Everton boss David Moyes has revealed that he would love to sign former-England captain David Beckham on-loan in January.

The Scot played with Beckham when he was just a youngster on-loan at Preston from United. Could the former-Manchester United star be heading back to the Premier League?

Wanted

Moyes told Sky Sports: “I would hope that if David wanted to come he would pick up the phone and call me.

“If he wanted to come back to the Premier League he would only need to phone me or Phil (Neville) and we would be here for him. He knows how to get hold of Phil and he knows how to get hold of me.

“We would have to look into it financially, but if he came and said to me I would like to come and play I would have to go to the chairman and ask if we could do it, if we think we can make it work by selling enough shirts.”

Money

The Everton boss revealed yesterday that he won’t have any transfer funds to spend on players in the January transfer window. He did however admit that he could dip into the loan market.

Beckham’s LA Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan looked the most likely temporary recruit, having already spent a spell on-loan at Goodison last season, but it looks like Beckham could be another option.

With Everton currently struggling financially the signing of David Beckham on loan would seem unlikely but as Moyes says the sale of shirts and other merchandise would surely pay for his hefty wage packet.

There is also the issue of signing David Beckham as a way of increasing the profile of the club. With Everton chairman Bill Kenwright currently looking for investment an increase in worldwide profile would be a major boost to the club.

Moyes has had to work on one of the tightest budgets in the Premier League. He has done a superb job in building a competent squad on limited funds. He can’t go on working like this forever and investment is badly needed.

Loans

Anyway back to David Beckham. The former-Real Madrid star has had two previous spells on-loan at AC Milan during the MLS off-season and its unknown if he would be willing to make another temporary switch in January.

He is still in good physical condition but he may still need a rest from competitive football. He does love the game and the possibility of one last hooray in the Premier League may prove too much off a temptation for him.

Inspiration

Beckham still has enough left in his tank to be a useful addition to the Everton squad. I believe he would be a good signing for the Blues. He is a great leader and inspirational character. Even when he is not having his best game he is capable of inspiring his teammates.

Everton are currently lacking inspiration and I believe he would be the ideal man to supply it. And I also believe that most Evertonians would welcome his arrival at Goodison Park. Everton haven’t got much to lose by signing Beckham but the question is does he really want to return to the Premier League with Everton?

I doubt he will. If he transfers, it will be to another MLS team.
