(GSM) – Zenit St. Petersburg extended their lead in the Russian Premier League, beating nearest rivals Rubin Kazan 2-0 on Saturday.
Rubin started the match at seven points from the leaders, and a victory would have left them at just four with half of the season played.
But Alexander Kerzhakov put Zenit ahead in the 45th minute and went on to add a second five minutes after the hour, allowing his side to extend their lead to no less than ten points.
On Friday, Spartak Nalchik jumped to third place with a 2-1 win over Amkar Perm. The hosts scored two early goals through Roman Kontzedalov and Leandro, while only Zahari Sirakov found the target for the visiting side.
