Anderlecht in talks with Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt

Anderlecht are interested in signing Wesley Hoedt from Southampton in the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider. It has been reported that the Belgian club are in talks with the defender over signing him on loan for the 2020-21 campaign.

Hoedt has been on the books of Southampton since the summer of 2017 when he joined from Italian club Lazio. Much was expected of the 26-year-old when he arrived at St. Mary’s Stadium, but things have not gone according to plan for him.

Hoedt was on loan at Celta de Vigo in 2019 and spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Royal Antwerp. The Netherlands international defender did relatively well in Belgium, and it seems that he could be on his way back there. Anderlecht are a big club in Belgium and will be aiming for the title next season, and a loan move there does make sense for Wesley Hoedt.
