Competition: Europa League

Market: Atletico Madrid to beat Sporting Lisbon

Odds: 4/5 @ Bet365

With their La Liga dream squashed for another year, Atletico have now turned all their attention to the Europa League and will travel to Portugal with a two-goal advantage.

For the Jorge Jesus’ Sporting Lisbon side, now chasing down a six-point deficit at the top of the Premiera Liga table, the Green and Whites now face an even tougher test against Atletico on Thursday night, losing three of their last five matches in all competitions Lisbon were almost knocked out by Viktoria Plzen in the last round and have failed to keep a single clean sheet in any of their Europa League matchups.

As for Atletico, the Red and Whites will travel to Portugal filled with confidence after coming away with a draw at the Bernabeu last weekend. Although Simeone’s side may sit nine points adrift of runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona, the former Champions League finalists have their sights set on the Europa League and stand as the bookmakers favorites. Beating Sporting 2-0 in the first leg, Madrid have won all five of their Europa League matches and have now won 12 of their last 15 in all competitions. French international forward Antoine Greiezmann now has five goals in his last five appearances for the Red and Whites and Madrid as a team have only failed to find the net in one of their matches in 2018.
