Azpilicueta could return to Spain

Cesar Azpilicueta’s time at Chelsea might be approaching the end. The new season has just started and the transfer window in January is still far away, but media in England are already suggesting that the experienced defender could be on his way out of the club either in January or next summer. The Mirror are reporting that he could be going back to his native Spain, as Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad are allegedly interested in him.

There would be a couple of possible reasons for Azpilicueta’s departure from Stamford Bridge in the near future. One of them is his age, as the Spaniard born in Pamplona has turned 30 and Chelsea are known for not being keen to offering new contracts to players who are 30 or older. The second reason would be that it could be the ideal time to actually earn some money on the transfer fee. The third and maybe even the biggest reason would be so that Reece James can get more playing time under Frank Lampard’s tutelage.

At least that is what The Mirror are reporting. Two La Liga clubs are interested and Azpilicueta might just want to return to Spain in the latter stage of his career.
