Barcelona approach Juventus for Morata

Barcelona have made a direct approach to Juventus about the possibility of signing Alvaro Morata, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It seems Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez, who wanted to strengthen the attacking options at his disposal from the day he took the job, isn’t content with the club signing just Ferran Torres from Manchester City. Now he wants Morata, who used to play for both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the past, too.

The 29-year-old striker officially still belongs to Atletico, but Juventus have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season and it is therefore with the Serie A giants that Barcelona need to find an agreement, as well as the Rojiblancos.

With just seven goals and three assists in 23 matches in all competitions this season, Morata’s form hasn’t been great, but with 14 league starts so far, he’s still obviously a pretty regular name on the team-sheet composed by Massimiliano Allegri.

One of the things that are halting the deal at this point is Barcelona’s offer of Memphis Depay as part of the exchange. Juventus are not convinced of the quality of the Dutch international.
