Barcelona linked with Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez

Barcelona are interested in signing Athletic Bilbao central defender Inigo Martinez in the summer of 2023, according to Sport. The report in the Spanish publication has claimed that La Liga giants Barcelona wanted to sign the 31-year-old central defender in the summer of 2022 and remain keen on bringing him to Camp Nou at the end of the season.

Martinez has been on the books of Athletic since 2018 when he joined after leaving Real Sociedad. The 31-year-old has established himself as one of the better defenders in La Liga and has earned 19 caps for the Spain national football team.

Barcelona are at the top of the La Liga table at the moment with 38 points from 15 matches, level on points with leaders and second-placed Real Madrid, who won the title last season. Meanwhile, Athletic currency find themselves fifth in the standings with 25 points from 15 games.
