Barcelona to sign Leganes striker on emergency deal

Despite the fact that the January transfer window has ended 17 days ago, on the last day of January, Barcelona are in to sign a new player this week. This unexpected turn of events is possible due to regulations in Spain that during Ferbruary, a side can sign a player on an emergency deal if they prove that they were unlucky with the injuries they had in the aftermath of the deadline day.

La Liga ruled in Barcelona’s favour, granting them the opportunity to sign a new player this week only, if they can get a deal done. Also, there is a caveat that teams cannot spend crazy sums of money, which has made things tougher for Barca in regards to choosing the player they will sign.

And it looks like that will be Martin Braithwaite, as his agent has travelled to Barcelona to finalise a transfer, according to RAC1. The 28-year-old striker is going to ‘ease the pain’ inflicted by injuries of Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembelle. The thing is that if Barcelona sign Braithwaite, Leganes will not be given the chance to get a replacement for him and all while they are fighting to stay in the league.
