Blackburn Rovers 2/3 to beat Barnsley in Wednesday’s Championship showdown

Competition: Championship

Market: Blackburn win

Odds: 2/3 @ 888sport

Smelling a real chance to lay down another marker in midweek, Blackburn will welcome Barnsley to Ewood Park on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, last seen earlier in the month putting in another stellar display, there is no doubt that the mood in Blackburn’s camp should be at a red-hot high. Breezing their way to a thumping 4-0 win against Birmingham on December 18th, Tony Mowbray’s men have continued to shock almost everyone across the Championship this season. Opening the midweek fixtures sat third in the table, the Rovers also find themselves just three points adrift of breaking into the automatic spots. Enjoying what has been nothing short of a stunning purple patch at Ewood Park, Blackburn have won each of their last five contests on the spin. Smelling a golden chance to lay down another marker when they make their return to action here, it’s also worth highlighting that Mowbray’s men have taken 19 points from their last seven Championship matchups.

As for the visitors, while Blackburn might be battling it out at the top of the Championship table, the same cannot be said for a struggling Barnsley squad. Although the Yorkshire-based outfit might have shocked many as they clinched a play-off spot last season, the Reds now find themselves in a scrap to maintain their second-tier status. Despite hanging onto a point against promotion contenders West Brom last time out on December 17th, Barnsley have failed to win any of their last seven Championship matchups, a run that stems back to the start of November. Making the trip to Ewood Park on Wednesday night still sat seven points adrift of safety, Markus Schopp’s men have also gained a reputation for their rather glaring issues on the road. Without a single away victory all season, we’re backing what should be a routine night’s work for Blackburn.
