Aitana Bonmati believes she has passed the halfway point in her recovery from a broken leg, though the Barcelona star remains unsure if she will play again this season.
Bonmati – who became the first woman to win the Ballon d’Or on three occasions in September – suffered the injury during a training session with Spain in November.
The midfielder fell awkwardly during preparations for the Women’s Nations League final, in which Spain beat Germany 3-0 on aggregate, making her a doubt to return in 2025-26.
Speaking at a charity event in Barcelona, Bonmati said of her recovery: “It is an injury that lasts about four to five months, but we are somewhat past the middle of the process.
“I’m getting back to my feet. It hurts me, I can’t lie to you. I hope to return as soon as possible, but there is no exact date.
“It will depend on how I feel and how much I can resist the pain. But I hope it will be sooner rather than later.”
