Greek first division club Panserraikos Serres on Monday appointed former Club Brugge and Anderlecht coach Hugo Broos on a six-month deal with a single objective.

The club, who fell to second bottom of the table following a 3-0 away loss to Panathinaikos on Sunday, said Broos's contract will be extended at the end of the season if he saves them from relegation.

The team's coach Yiannis Papacostas was fired last week.

No financial terms of the contract were revealed by the team.

Broos, 56, coached Club Brugge to the Belgian championship in 1992 and 1996 and in 1991, 1995 and 1996 the squad under his management won the Belgian Cup.

In 2004 he led Anderlecht to the league title and has also coached KRC Genk.
