Can Manchester City now finish the job and win the Premier League title?

Manchester City completed a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium last night.

The victory took the Citizens top of the Premier League table on goal difference.

The game was a must win one for City and they did.

Tense

The game was full of tension. The fans were tense, the managers were tense and most of all it looked like the players were tense.

Who could blame them though? This game had a major bearing on where the Premier League trophy would be heading this season.

The tension made for a slightly scrappy game which was only really illuminated by Vincent Kompany’s headed goal in first half stoppage time. The Belgian centre-back has been one of the key players for City this season and richly deserved his moment of glory.

Historic

The 1-0 victory may not have been achieved in a spectacular manner but it could be one of the biggest results in the history of Manchester City Football Club. The club has only ever won one English league title and they now have the momentum to claim their second.

Momentum

This seasons Premier League title race has been an intriguing one. First it looked like City had the title sewn up and then Manchester United suddenly looked like they were going to claim the big prize at the end of the season.

Manchester City now have the forward momentum after their big victory to go on and claim the title. However as the Premier League has already shown this season the English top flight can produce some very unexpected results.

Difficult

Manchester City’s next game is an away trip to Newcastle’s St James Park, which is probably one of the hardest grounds to visit at this present moment in time. Newcastle have been in sparkling form but suffered an unexpected 4-0 defeat at Wigan last time out.

The Magpies will be determined to bounce back with a good performance against the leaders, especially as they are competing for a potential Champions League place next season.

Manchester United on the other hand face midtable Swansea at Old Trafford. The game won’t be easy for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men but as a fan I would certainly rather be facing the Welsh side than a team like Newcastle.

Passion

The title race means a lot to everybody on both sides of the city of Manchester. You could see how much it meant when opposing managers Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini had to be separated on the touchline in the second half.

This title race is even getting to a veteran like Fergie. It must seem to him that his team are just delaying the inevitable, a Manchester City title victory. If City don’t clinch the title this season then I am sure they will do in the next couple of seasons.

City’s owners are just too wealthy not to make it happen for the Citizens. They have already invested a fortune in the club but are likely to invest more money in the club to make the team even stronger.

First

In football they say that your first league title is always the hardest one to win. If City win the Premier League this season it may not be their first ever league title but it will be their first in 44 years.

Should City win this seasons Premier League title then I would expect them to go on and dominate the Premier League for years to come. They have everything in place to become one of the biggest clubs in Europe. All they needed is that first league victory to get them rolling.

Noisy

Those noisy neighbours from the Etihad Stadium have suddenly turned the noise and the heat up on Manchester United. The champions are now relying on other teams to them favours, not the best position to be in at this stage of the season.

The Premier League title race has already produced some major twists and turns this season. Could there be a few more a long the way? Whose knows but one thing is for sure Manchester City now have it in their own hands to lose.

Will Manchester City complete then job and win the Premier League title?

They have the chance, and the perfect position to do it, no doubt, but United won’t let them have it easy.
