Chelsea have booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League this season after getting the better of FC Porto over two legs in the quarter-finals.

The Premier League club won the first leg of their quarter-final tie 2-0 in Seville last week, thanks to goals form Mason Mount and Ben Childwell.

It was a very efficient performance from Chelsea, who headed into Tuesday’s second leg – once again held in Sevilla due to travel restrictions between England and Portugal – as favourites and with confidence.

However, it was Porto who got the win, Mehdi Taremi scoring with a wonderful overhead kick in the third minute of injury time.

It was not enough for the Portuguese giants, though, as Chelsea went through to the semi-finals 2-1 on aggregate and are now rated at 7/2 by Betfair to win the Champions League this season.

This is what we learned from Chelsea’s win against Porto on Tuesday evening:

Chelsea can win the Champions League

Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel are not exactly great to watch, but the Blue get the job done. The Premier League giants are defensively very solid under Tuchel and are quite clinical when it comes to scoring goals. This pragmatism is what the London outfit need if they are to win the Champions League this season, and one should not be surprised if they go all the way. Of course, winning the semi-final tie against Liverpool or Real Madrid will not be easy, but the players will be full of confidence and will believe that they can beat any team.

N’Golo Kante is the world’s best defensive midfielder

N’Golo Kante has had injury problems this season, and there is a feeling that he is often ignored when discussing the best players in the world. On Wednesday evening, the France international showed yet again why he is the best defensive midfielder on the planet. The former Leicester City star had recently recovered from a hamstring injury, but he showed no signs of any problem, as he imposed himself in the middle of the park, demonstrated great positional sense, broke Porto’s attacking players, and protected the Chelsea back-line

Christian Pulisic is a big player for Chelsea

Christian Pulisic has had injury problems during his time at Chelsea, but now fully fit and available, the USA international attacking midfielder has started to show his class. The 22-year-old, who can also operate as a winger, scored twice for the Blues in their win against Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the weekend and was again a big player against Porto on Tuesday evening. The American star did not have the best of times in the first half, but he got more involved after the break after switching wings and could have scored as ell.
