Could French giants PSG capture South American stars?

Paris Saint-Germain owner Nasser Al-Khelafi has revealed that the ambitious Ligue One club have their sights on signing South American stars Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain.

They are ambitious targets but the new owner seems to be putting his money where his mouth is when it comes to signing players.

Targets

The PSG owner told Sky Sports: “ We are already looking at the market for next season. We have clear targets in mind. It is true that we want Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain. Our real short-term targets are to win the Champions League and find a new Lionel Messi.

“We will spend what is normal for a top-class club. We prefer to invest a lot and immediately. In the next five or six years, we still spend this amount. Then the investments will slow.”

Ambitious

The signing of those players would send a message out that PSG really do mean business. Both players are top class performers. PSG have already spend quite a bit of money bringing in some new players already and a new coach in Carlo Ancelotti.

Money really does talk and it has already convinced the likes of highly-rated midfield playmaker Javier Pastore to move to the club, but even bigger names look set to head to the French capital.

Controversy

Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has caused so much controversy in his short time in England. The Liverpool striker seems to create drama every time he steps onto the pitch. No doubt he is a top class player but at the moment he isn’t exactly prolific in front of goal.

I believe that if Liverpool receive a big enough bid from PSG then they will accept it. The Reds have struggled for goals this season and despite playing well in games he hasn’t been prolific at finding the onion bag.

I think most Liverpool fans would accept the sale of Luis Suarez if the club could bring in a striker that would score them 20 goals a season. He may loved by the fans but he is currently not doing his job as a striker.

Whether Suarez would leave Liverpool for the French top flight is a different question. The standard of league is obviously poorer than that of the Premier League and maybe that would outweigh any massive wage packet he would receive at PSG.

Quality

Out of the two players mentioned I would favour a move for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinian international isn’t always a regular starter for Los Blancos, yet still manages to score goals on a regular basis.

He has made more appearances from the substitutes bench than starts this season because of the good form of French striker Karim Benzema, yet he has still scored 16 goals in La Liga. In my opinion Higuain is a far better player to get you goals than Suarez.

The same question remains with the French-born star, would he actually want to move from one of the worlds biggest leagues, not to mention clubs to play in Ligue One? I’m not so sure.

The 24 year-old may get fed up of waiting for regular first football and agree a switch but it‘s unlikely. I’m sure PSG would give him a massive wage to compensate him if he did decide to move on though.

Doubts

I have no doubt that PSG have the money to finance the deals but they don’t have the standard of league to attract the top stars. Some players will move to PSG because they like the massive wages on offer and who can blame them.

However I can’t see either of these players arriving at the Parc Des Princes anytime soon. Other big players will arrive in the French capital this summer and PSG may just become the next Manchester City, just on a smaller scale.

Will PSG really sign Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez this summer?
