Deco is virtually certain to play for Portugal in their 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa qualifier against Sweden on Saturday, just two weeks after his club Chelsea hinted that the midfielder’s season could be over.
The 30-year-old Deco suffered a thigh injury playing against Manchester City in the English Premier League on 15 March with the setback judged so serious that Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink thought the star would be sidelined until next season.
Portugal and Sweden have suffered stuttering starts to their FIFA World Cup campaigns. Portugal are fourth in Group One while the Swedes are a place further back.
