The MLS season has just finished and there is speculation that LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan may return to Everton on-loan this January.
Everybody seems to be making the right noises about another temporarily switch but it remains to be seen if a move materialises.
Successful
The 28 year-old told Sky Sports News: “Give me a few weeks and I will have an answer for you,”
“Right now I’m four days into my vacation and I’m going to enjoy it. I’m going to chill and then in a few weeks I will make a decision.”
He has been playing football constantly for the last two years without a break.
He has had a great year and I’m sure it has probably been one of his most successful years. He helped the USA to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, had a successful loan spell with Everton and reached the divisional play-offs with the Galaxy.
Enthusiastic
Donovan is a very enthusiastic guy and I can’t see him resting for too long. I’m sure in January he will be well rested. I can’t see him kicking his heels on the sidelines for a pre-season. He enhanced his reputation by performing well at Everton is his first spell and it would be a good opportunity for him to enhanced that reputation even further and play at the highest level.
Energy
He added energy and enthusiasm to Everton squad last January when the Blues really needed it. At the moment Everton are in a similar situation, in need of some good old fashioned energy. They have looked lacklustre in recent weeks and would benefit from Donovan’s presence in the squad.
Wanted
Everton boss David Moyes has always maintained that he would welcome the USA international back at Goodison. He told Sky Sports News: “We would be, we have said it every time I get asked,”
“I get asked regularly about it, but Landon has just finished his season.
“He’s been on the go for nearly two years with the World Cup and coming here. What he needs is a break and after that he will decide what to do.
“There has been no contact.”
The Scot has admitted there has been no contact yet, but I can’t imagine it will be long before he contacts Donovan’s agent and his club to try and sort out a deal.
Moyes knows that Donovan gives the team a lot and without a fee he’s an ideal signing. It’s not often that a player of the quality of Donovan becomes available and without a fee. He is an absolute steal.
His versatility would also prove a real asset to David Moyes. Everton are currently struggling up front and Donovan could prove another option. Maybe the signing of Donovan may also get the best out of the players currently underperforming in the Everton team.
Likely
Before Donovan signed for Everton the first time I was singing his praises and saying that he would be a superb signing for the Blues. He was and if he rejoins in January then he will again prove a very good signing. Everton fans would welcome back the USA star with open arms.
Will Landon Donovan rejoin Everton in January?
