Everton closing in on permanent Barry deal

Everton are willing to cough up £11m in a bid to secure a permanent deal for Gareth Barry, according to the Mirror.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Roberto Martinez’s side from Manchester City, scoring three goals in thirty-two Premier League appearances helping them to a fifth place finish in the table.

His contract with City has expired, though the Everton are set to pay the Premier League champions a fee of £2m as part of the conditions of his original loan deal.

The 33 year old was one of the Toffees’ star players last season, leading to calls from many for him to receive an international recall though he failed to make England manager Roy Hodgson’s selection for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Barry is fifth on the list of all time appearances in the Premier League having turned out 529 times across spells with Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa.
