Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to become new Rangers boss

Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to become the new manager of Rangers should Steven Gerrard leave for Aston Villa, according to The Sun. It has been reported that Gerrard is close to leaving his managerial role at Rangers and making the switch to Villa. The Premier League club are reportedly ready to pay the £3 million compensation clause for Gerrard.

Van Bronckhorst is reportedly keen on replacing Gerrard at Rangers. The 46-year-old played for the Gers from 1998 until 2001 and remains hugely popular among the Ibrox faithful. The former Netherlands international has managed Feyenoord and Guangzhou City so far in his career.

Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title under Gerrard last season and also reached the Europa League Round of 16. The Gers are at the top of the league table at the moment and could also progress to the latter stages of the Europa League this season.
