Gremio beat Santos to reclaim first place

Gremio Porto Alegre are back in first place in the Brazilian Serie A following a 2-0 win over Santos FC.

Morales put the 1995 Copa Libertadores winners in the lead after just two minutes, and Soares added a second four minutes into additional time.

Santos player Fabiano Eller conceded two yellow cards, one in the 51st minute and one near the end of the game.

Palmeiras began the day in shared first place with Gremio, but dropped two valuable points at Figueirense Florianopolis where neither side managed to score.

Gremio now have 56 points from 29 games, and Palmeiras follow at a two-points gap.
