January 20th: Saturday’s English Accumulator – 10/1

While there might only be a handful of Premier League fixtures this weekend, the rest of England’s professional tiers should steal centre stage.

On a Saturday afternoon that includes plenty of interesting affairs, we have taken a look at a trio of noteworthy betting tips.

Saturday, January 20th

BST 15:00 Plymouth vs Cardiff

Although Plymouth might have been forced to settle for a single point in four of their previous five Championship appearances, new boss Ian Foster will be smelling a golden opportunity on Saturday afternoon. Continuing to shine since making their second-tier return this season and holding a commanding eight-point buffer over the drop zone, the Pilgrims will be excited by their extended success on home soil. Extending on their FA Cup adventure on January 6th thanks to a 3-1 win against Sutton, the Devon-based outfit have not suffered a single loss at Home Park since the start of October. If Plymouth are to pick up what could be a crucial victory here, then they will be calling on attacking talisman Morgan Whittaker to spearhead their charge here. Once again finding the net away at Huddersfield last week, the 23-year-old has bagged a stunning seven goals in as many appearances across all competitions. While Cardiff might find themselves almost sat in Championship limbo, Saturday’s hosts are enduring another worrying blip. Last seen getting hit with a 3-0 drumming at home against Leeds, the Bluebirds have won just a pair of their previous eight outings. Likewise, suffering a 4-0 FA Cup defeat against Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the month, Cardiff could face a tricky test here. It should also be highlighted, Erol Bulut’s men have not recorded a single clean sheet on their travels since November 4th.

Tip: Morgan Whittaker to score anytime @ 2/1

15:00 Lincoln vs Derby

Managing to make an immediate return to winning ways earlier in the week as they secured an action-packed 3-2 victory against Burton, the Rams will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. Opening Saturday’s showdown with just their goal difference keeping them outside of the automatic play-off places, Paul Warne’s side have certainly gained a reputation for their continued success on the road. Last seen on their travels collecting a 3-1 romp against Fleetwood, the former Rotherham boss has seen his squad win all of their last five straight appearances away from Pride Park – a run that stems all the way back to November 5th. Signing off 2023 with a 3-2 win against Oxford, Warne’s side should be smelling a golden chance here. Landing a 3-1 victory when they welcomed Lincoln to town for their reverse League One meeting on December 21st, Derby will be seeking a repeat performance this weekend. Although the Imps might have managed to snatch a 1-1 draw away at Wycombe last week, Saturday’s guests find themselves at the heart of a real League One struggle. Opening the New Year with a routine 2-0 loss at the hands of Blackpool, Lincoln are without a single win from any of their previous eight appearances across all competitions. Almost sat in third-tier limbo and seeking a minor miracle in their bid to punch a play-off ticket, Michael Skubala’s side have also lost back-to-back contests at Sincil Bank.

Tip: Derby win @ 1/1

15:00 MK Dons vs Morecambe

While MK Dons might have lost their League One status last season amidst a string of off-field issues, Saturday’s hosts have come roaring back this time around. Dreaming of the chance to clinch an immediate third-tier return in 2024, Mike Williamson’s side should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Last seen putting in another eye-catching display as they secured a 2-1 victory away at Tranmere, the Dons will certainly be looking to make another play-off statement here. In fact, along with winning five of their last six League One appearances, MK Dons are also unbeaten in all of their previous 11 straight fourth-tier outings. With that remarkable purple patch stemming all the way back to October 21st, Williamson’s side have also gained a reputation for their continued success on home soil. Including a 2-0 win against Crawley last month, the Whites have won all of their last three showdowns at Stadium MK by an aggregate score of 5-0. On the flip side, while Morecambe might have snatched a 1-1 stalemate against promotion hopefuls Mansfield, the Shrimps find themselves sat in League Two limbo. Without a win from any of their previous six appearances across all competitions, Ged Brannan’s side should be bracing themselves for a stern challenge here. Losing back-to-back showdowns outside of Lancashire by an aggregate score of 7-0, we are backing a home victory this weekend.
