Japan superstar Shinji Kagawa says he will prepare himself to be available for selection for his country at the 2012 London Olympics.

The 22-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder has not featured in Olympic qualifying for Takashi Sekizuka’s Under-23 side but could be considered for the London games.

“The team has its stance on selection so it is not for me to comment but I want to get myself prepared,” Kagawa told reporters at Osaka Airport as he prepared to head back to Germany to link up with Dortmund after a break in Japan.

Japan are currently top of Group C in Asian qualifying, with three victories from three matches. The top team in each group automatically qualifies for the Olympics, while the runners-up face a playoff.

Meanwhile, Kagawa added that he was hoping for a strong second half to the 2011-12 season with Dortmund, aiming to remain injury free.

“My main objective is to finish the season without being injured and on top of that deliver results,” Kagawa said.

“I’m in good condition and have high hopes for myself for the second half of the season.”
