LDU Quito have secured a place in the final of the Copa Libertadores. After last week’s 1-1 draw away from home, opponents America de Mexico were now held to a scoreless draw.

America, who needed a goal to survive this clash, showed a passionate start and forced Quito’s goalkeeper Francisco Cevallos to make some early saves.

After the break, LDU hit the woodwork twice and America had another dangerous shot blocked by the keeper.

Frustration eventually caused the Mexicans to finish the game with nine players after red cards for Alberto Sánchez in the 60th minute and Alejandro Arguello in stoppage time.

LDU, who face either Boca Juniors or Fluminense in the final, could become the first team from Ecuador to win the cup. In two earlier occasions, an Ecuadorian formation lost the final.
