Leeds United want Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman

Leeds United want to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman in the summer transfer window, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post. The West Yorkshire outfit are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper following the departure of Kiko Casilla to Elche on loan this summer, and the club’s director of football, Victor Orta, has identified Woodman among others to replace the Spaniard.

Woodman spent the last two seasons on loan at Swansea City from Newcastle. The 24-year-old goalkeeper played regularly for the Swans in the Championship and helped the Welsh club reach the playoffs. The Englishman is now back at his parent club, Newcastle.

Illan Meslier is the first-choice goalkeeper at Leeds, but the Frenchman is only 21 years of age. Head coach Marcelo Bielsa needs to have a strong back-up who can push Meslier and can step in when need be.
