Lyon’s indifferent Ligue 1 form continued on Friday with the French giants upstaged 2-1 on home soil against Stade Rennes.
Remi Garde’s men crashed to their third defeat from their last five league outings despite taking the lead at Stade de Gerland Honorato Ederson on 36 minutes.
Jonathan Pitroipa restored parity for the visitors just three minutes, before Jires Ekoko netted what proved to be the match winner eight minutes after half-time.
The result, Lyon’s first home defeat in the French top flight this term, saw Rennes leapfrog Garde’s side into fourth place in the standings.
In Friday’s other match, reigning champions Lille missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Paris-Saint Germain after only managing a scoreless draw away to Toulouse.
The home side held on for a share of the spoils at Stadium Municipal, thwarting persistent Lille attacks and reducing the visitors to long-range efforts from Eden Hazard and Florent Balmont.
Lille stay in third, two points behind second-placed Montpellier and five short of PSG. Toulouse cling on to sixth, but will fall to seventh if Lorient defeat Evian on Saturday.
