Liverpool and Bayern agree Thiago deal

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich, according to multiple reliable sources.

The Spanish midfielder was heavily linked with the Premier League champions throughout the summer, though their Bundesliga counterparts claimed on several occasions that there was no contact. Bayern were holding out for a €30 million fee and Liverpool were believed to be unwilling to meet that price, but the agreement has actually been set at that amount.

Negotiations have been brought forward since the start of the week, with Bayern keen to resolve the matter before the start of their league season on Friday, when the Champions League winners play Schalke 04 at the Allianz Arena.

The personal terms between Liverpool and the 29-year-old are yet to be agreed despite some reports suggesting it had already been done, but that particular part of the move is believed to be the easy one.

It was also believed that Liverpool’s move for Thiago would depend on Georginio Wijnaldum leaving, with the Dutchman in his final contract year and linked with Barcelona, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
