Liverpool eye Daryl Janmaat

Liverpool are interested in signing former Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat on a free transfer, according to TEAMtalk. The 31-year-old right-back is without a club at the moment following his departure from Watford last month and has been linked with a move to the defending Premier League champions.

It has been reported that Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign Janmaat. The Merseyside outfit are on the hunt for a new central defender following long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. The former Champions League winner are interested in the Netherlands international, who is able to play centrally despite being a right-back by trade.

The report has added that Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has given the club a glowing reference of his compatriot. The 30-year-old played with Janmaat at Newcastle United and plays for the Netherlands national football team.
