Liverpool fringe players attracting interest

Several Liverpool players are likely to leave Anfield before the transfer window slams shut on Monday, according to James Pearce of The Athletic.

The most notable name on the list is Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss international will soon turn 29 and he has expressed a desire for more game-time. However, that wouldn’t be easy at Liverpool, with the recent signings of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota significantly boosting competition for midfield and attacking places. Shaqiri was left out of the squad for the Carabao Cup clash against Arsenal on Thursday, which he had been thought likely to start. Speaking after the game, manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that Shaqiri had no fitness issues, but there were some things happening in the background. It seems two clubs, one of which is believed to be from the Serie A, contacted the Premier League champions earlier that day over the prospect of signing the winger.

Sheffield United remain the favourites to sign striker Rhian Brewster, while midfielders Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic have also attracted strong interest.
