Manchester United battling Liverpool for Ibrahima Konate

Manchester United are competing with Liverpool forward RB Leipzig central defender Ibrahima Konate, according to Eurosport. It has been reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants to sign a new centre-back, and that the Liverpool board are keen on progressing talks quickly and making sure that they are able to secure the services of the France Under-21 international.

The report has claimed that United and Chelsea are also admirers of Konate. Leipzig will sell the French central defender in the summer of 2021 for £34 million. According to WhoScored, Konate has made four starts and six substitute appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season, scoring one goal in the process. The youngster has also made five starts and one substitute appearance in the Champions League this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Liverpool signed two central defenders in the January transfer window due to long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. Ben Davies arrived from Preston North End, while Ozan Kabak joined on loan from Schalke.
