Manchester United finally close to ridding themselves of Sanchez

While Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane dreaming of signing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, it seems another enigmatic character Alexis Sanchez is closer to the Old Trafford exit door.

According to Sky Sports, Italian club Inter have agreed a loan deal to sign the Chilean before the transfer window shuts. The deal would see Inter pay around £4.5million of his salary for the duration of his loan spell in Milan.

However, reportedly that would mean that the Red Devils will still be paying the forward £6million. At least it will rid the club of some of the major financial burden anyway.

Sanchez has been a huge waste of money

The Chile international has been constantly linked with a move throughout the summer. Every time he is, we examine how much of a huge waste of money the forward has been for United. However, it’s hard not to talk about finances when we talk about Sanchez.

His reported wage of £350,000 per-week is ludicrous, even by modern wage standards, which are ridiculous anyway. For that sort of money, you would expect a true superstar.

Instead, they ended up with a player who was in massive decline because of constant football for nearly a decade. Pound for pound, wages-wise he may have been the Red Devils worse signing in recent history.

Declined at Arsenal

Although Alexis Sanchez enjoyed the best spell of his career at Arsenal, when he joined the Red Devils he was in decline. The energetic Sanchez was running less and having less of an influence on games for the Gunners.

His demeanour seemed frustration and his moods increased, as his teammates did not live up to his previously high standards. However, in truth, in the last year and a year at Arsenal, Sanchez looked finished.

The fact that Manchester United agreed to shell out so much in wages to bring in the Chilean says a lot about their recruitment policy in recent years. At the time it did look like a gamble from United, due to his poor final period at Arsenal.

However, some believed the lack of transfer negated the money they shelled out on wages and no doubt a massive signing on fee. It did not I am afraid and United have been stuck with a player who simply looks like he cannot be bothered or is unable to play in the Premier League.

Sanchez seemed like such a determined character for much of his career at Arsenal. Now he just seems an expensive liability for his team.

Hoping to help Inter to the Serie A title

Currently, at 30 years old, Sanchez’s career looks all but over. The switch to Italy’s top-flight is likely to be the last throw of the dice when it comes to reviving his now flagging career. However, many thought he could up his game when he moved from Arsenal to United.

The move to Inter should be ideal for the forward, as the Nerazzurri are expected to mount a title challenge this season in Serie A under former Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte.

Inter are currently odds of 5/1 to win the Scudetto this season. It would be unfair to expect Conte to end former club Juventus’ dominance in his first campaign as Inter boss.

If Sanchez to get back to his best form, then he could prove to be an asset in the title race for Inter. Meanwhile, Manchester United will just be glad that they will not be paying the Chilean’s full wages for the next ten months.

Will Alexis Sanchez revive his career in Milan?
