Manchester United looking to overhaul squad

Manchester United could make as many as five big money signings this summer, according to the Express.

The club are closing in on a deal to sign Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, and that is set to be just the beginning as they look to rebuild their squad after a disappointing 2013/14 campaign.

The 2012/13 champions finished the season in seventh place, their lowest outcome in twenty-five years and so are preparing for a year without European football.

Defensive pair Mats Hummels and Bruno Martins of Borussia Dortmund and Feyenord are being eyed as possible replacements for outgoing duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, while Germany international midfielders Marco Reus and Toni Kroos are wanted to add attacking flair.

Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal is expected to be announced as manager in the coming days, and he will be tasked with getting the club back into the top four as an absolute minimum.
