Marseille 2/1 to beat Athletic Bilbao in Thursdays Europa League last 16 showdown

Competition: Europa League
Market: Marseille to beat Athletic Bilbao
Odds: 2/1 @ Bet 365

With a spot in this years Europa League quarterfinals awaiting the winner, Rudi Garcia’s Marseille side will travel to Spain for the second leg of their last 16 showdown.

For the hosts on Thursday night, José Ángel Ziganda’s Athletic Bilbao side have been unable to match their impressive seventh-place finish last season. After spending the majority of this years campaign flirting with midtable, Bilbao currently find themselves sat 12th in the La Liga table and the chances of securing European football at the San Mamés Barria Stadium is looking increasingly unlikely. Bilbao are now nine points adrift of the top seven and have been unable to gain any real momentum this season. Coming off the back of their 3-1 defeat away at Marseille last week, Ziganda’s side have now only managed to pick up one win in their last four matches in all competitions.

As for the visitors on Thursday, Javi Garcia’s Marseille side will fancy their chances of securing a lucrative spot in the quarterfinals of this years Europa League. Currently enjoying a successful run of form, the Olympians have all but guaranteed Champions League football next season. While Garcia’s side may sit 18 points adrift of runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG, Marseille hold a 15 point buffer over fifth spot. Boosted by their eye-catching 3-1 win in the first leg, Marseille are also unbeaten in their last three appearances.
