Monchi wants Rakitic back at Sevilla

Sevilla sporting director Monchi is keen on bringing Ivan Rakitic back to the club where he spent four years before joining Barcelona in 2014, according to Sport. During his time at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium, the Croatia international made 149 appearances in all competitions and scored 32 goals for Sevilla.

Now, turning 32 next month, it seems his time at the Camp Nou is coming to an end too. He has been pushing for an exit from the Blaugrana for a while, making no secret of the fact he is unhappy with the amount of game-time he has been getting this season. Of the 22 La Liga games Barcelona have played so far, Rakitic started eight and made as many substitute appearances. Five times the midfielder was left on the bench, and once he was left out of the squad altogether. He recently expressed disappointment with the way the club treated his situation during the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Monchi is already deep in the process of planning the Sevilla team for next season, and Rakitic is apparently a part of that plan, but he’ll have to act quickly as some reports claim he’s already in talks about joining Atletico Madrid.
