In an interview with the Observer on Sunday former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claimed that his former club had a bad season only because they finished close seconds in almost every competition in which they competed.

They lost the Premier League on the final day of the ten month season, lost the Carling Cup Final and lost the Champions League via a missed penalty kick.

He went on to add that after the successes over the past few seasons, no trophies mean a bad season. He felt sorry for both the supporters and players who deserved far more.

He concluded by saying that he regarded the players as his ‘boys’ and he also made it clear that, despite the speculation, he would not be rejoining the club he left in September 2007.
