Newcastle monitoring Atlanta United’s star forward

Newcastle United have already signed one player from Atlanta United in 2019 and now they could be going for another one. According to The Chronicle, the Magpies are interested in signing Josef Martinez from the MLS champions’ side.

The 26-year-old is one of the best goalscorers in the history of Major League Soccer and recently he got into the limelight of world football, by breaking the records for most consecutive matches in which he scored. On Thursday, he made the new record go up to 15 straight games in which he scored, during which run he has scored a total of 21 goals.

Martinez is also the MLS record holder for most hat-tricks scored and most goals scored in a single regular season. The Venezuelan was one of the main players that helped Atlanta win MLS Cup in 2018, alongside now Newcastle’s attacking midfielder Miguel Almiron. It would be interesting to see how far would Newcastle be ready to go in order to land the striker.
