Newcastle United watched Kristoffer Ajer against Rangers

Newcastle United are interested in signing Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic in the summer transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun. It has been reported that scouts from the Premier League club watched the Norway international central defender in action against Rangers in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on Sunday.

Celtic had a disappointing game and suffered a 4-1 defeat in the Scottish Premiership game, but Newcastle manager Steve Bruce still wants to sign the 23-year-old and will push for a deal when the summer transfer window opens. The 23-year-old, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, had a disappointing game.

Newcastle are pretty much safe from relegation to the Championship at the end of the season and are likely to retain their Premier League status for the 2021-22 campaign. Celtic lost the Scottish Premiership crown to Rangers this season.
