Nottingham Forest to reinforce fullback positions with Williams, Richards signings

Nottingham Forest are working on improving their squad ahead of the 2022/23 season, which will see them play in the Premier League for the first time since 1998/99. They’re reportedly working at the moment on strengthening the fullback positions, and they’re believed to be close to signing Neco Williams from Liverpool and Omar Richards from Bayern Munich.

Williams was for a while the backup option for Trent Alexander-Arnold on Liverpool’s right defensive flank, but with Joe Gomez back from injury, Jurgen Klopp decided to use the England international for the role instead, and Williams was sent out on loan to Fulham for the second half of last season.

With 33 appearances in all competitions for the Merseysiders, the 21-year-old grabbed six assists.

Meanwhile, Richards joined the ranks at Bayern a year ago from Reading and played 17 matches for the Bavarians last term, helping them win the Bundesliga title again. The 24-year-old left-back is now set to return to England and join Steve Cooper’s side once the medical, set to take place today (Friday), is complete.

According to The Athletic, his services will cost Forest around €8.5 million straight up, with add-ons to come on top of that.
