Major League Soccer has had some big names in their league in the last five years and soon they might get reinforcements. Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Carlos Vela and Bastian Schweinsteiger – among others – have all arrived to the United States and there are plans for a Serie A star to come over, as well.

According to La Voce di New York, New York City FC are looking to sign Dries Mertens in early 2020! The report says that the Belgian’s contract with Napoli is set to expire in June 2020 and the franchise owned by the same owner as Manchester City sees that as their opportunity to get the player on a pre-contract this coming winter. That will be the time between the two MLS seasons, but the whole story is still a long shot.

NYCFC are definitely planning to get in a huge name from Europe, after David Villa’s departure at the end of 2018 and Dries Mertens would fit that bill.
