In a match played under heavy rain at Estádio Olímpico in Porto Alegre, Palmeiras held Grêmio from distancing itself in the lead. The Tricolor hit the bar twice before Palmeiras opened the score.

After beating Figueirense 7-1 in Florianopolis, Grêmio had the advantage of playing at home, but the heavy rain prevented both teams from playing well.

Grêmio’s Felipe Mattioni and Edixon Perea hit the bar two times in the first half. In the second half, Palmeiras’ Alex Mineiro scored his 20th goal this season after Pereira committed a penalty on Kléber.

Five minutes later, Anderson Pico settled the score by kicking the ball after Marcos saved a cross from the right from Felipe Mattioni. Grêmio’s coach Celso Roth sent in strikers Reinaldo and André Luis while Palmeiras tried to secure the draw, and the score remained 1-1 until the end.

Grêmio, who end the day in the lead, one point ahead of Flamengo and four points ahead of Palmeiras, face Coritiba next Thursday in Curitiba. Palmeiras have a match against Flamengo in São Paulo, a battle between teams fighting for the first places.
