Paul Merson reacts to Ross Barkley joining Aston Villa

Paul Merson has given his reaction to Aston Villa signing Ross Barkley on loan from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The former Villa star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, believes that Barkley is a very good signing for the Villas.

As reported by BBC Sport, the Villans have signed the 26-year-old England international attacking midfielder on loan from Chelsea for the 2020-21 campaign .

Merson wrote on Sky Sports’ Instagram page, as relayed by HITC Sport: “What a signing for Villa. Top player. Up the Villa”.

Barkley may have failed to make a massive impact at Chelsea, but he is a very good and creative midfielder who will make Villa a better team in attack.

The Englishman was a huge success at Everton where he showed that he can drive from midfield, score goals and creates chances for his teammates.

Barkley could form a very strong partnership with Jack Grealish in attack, and Dean Smith’s side – who are rated at 13/5 by Betfair to finish in the top 10 of the Premier League table this season – could be a very good side to watch this season.
