Cesar Vallejo have risen to fourth in the standings in Peru’s Primera Division after a 2-1 win over UTC Cajamarca in a spiteful clash.

Both Cesar Vallejo and Cajamarca had a player sent off in the first half at the Estadio Municipal de Casa Grande before the former scored two goals in five second-half minutes to clinch the three points.

Saturday’s win took Cesar Vallejo to fourth spot with 31 points, pushing Alianza Lima down to fifth due to goals scored.

Alianza played out a scoreless draw with league leaders Real Garcilaso, who remain on top of the Primera Division with 34 points, while Sporting Cristal are a point behind in second after a 1-0 victory against Juan Aurich.

In Casagrande, Cesar Vallejo and Cajamarca were both reduced to 10 men in the space of six first-half minutes.

Cesar Vallejo had Paolo de la Haza sent off in the 20th minute for a raised elbow as he attempted to shield the ball from Raul Aleman, while Cajamarca lost Jesus Arismendi six minutes later when he made contact with the head of the home side’s Victor Cedron.

But the visitors responded to Arismendi’s red card in the best possible fashion with Ricardo Ronceros volleying in the opening goal in the 34th minute.

Having trailed 1-0 at the break, Cesar Vallejo started the second half with a flurry and equalised after seven minutes through German Alemanno’s header before Daniel Chavez put the hosts in front with a stunning goal in the 57th minute.

Chavez controlled a cross with his chest, spun past his defender and then slotted his volley underneath Cajamarca’s goalkeeper Daniel Ferreyra.

At the bottom of the Peruvian top flight, Union Comercio stayed three points ahead of last-placed Universidad San Martin with a 4-0 thumping of Sport Huancayo on Saturday.

Universidad San Martin claimed a 2-1 victory away to Jose Galvez, while Melgar drew 1-1 with Leon de Huanuco.

In other Primera Division results, Pacifico defeated Inti Gas 1-0 and Universitario were held to a 0-0 draw by Cienciano.
