AS Roma and Sampdoria will face each other in Serie A this coming weekend. The match between Jose Mourinho’s side and Dejan Stankovic’s team will be held at Stadio Olimpico in Rome and is scheduled to kick off at 5pm UK time on Sunday.

AS Roma

AS Roma are doing well in Serie A at the moment and are very much in the running for the top four in the league table. Jose Mourinho’s side are playing good football and are winning matches, and with teams such as AC Milan not having the best of times, the Giallorossi will fancy their chances of ending up in the UEFA Champions League places.

Jose Mourinho’s side are fifth in the Serie A table at the moment with 47 points from 27 matches. AS Roma are just a point behind fourth-placed and defending Italian champions AC Milan and just three points behind third-placed Inter Milan, Mourinho’s former club. Roma are actually just five points behind second-placed Lazio and could still end up runners-up in Serie A this season.

Roma will head into the Serie A match against Sampdoria at Stadio Olimpico in Rome on the back of a 1-0 loss at the hands of Lazio in the Roma derby in the league. It followed a goalless draw with Real Sociedad away from home in Spain in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie.

Team News:

AS Roma head coach Jose Mourinho is likely to line his team in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Andrea Belotti is set to start for Roma in attack and will lead the line. Dybala and Pelliegrini will be the two attacking players behind him.

Sampdoria

Sampdoria are an established club in Serie A and have done well in recent years. However, they are in real danger of getting relegated to Serie B at the end of the season. Things are not going well for  Dejan Stankovic’s side, and there is a distinct possibility that they could end up dropping out of Serie A.

I Blucerchiati are second from bottom in Serie A at the moment with 15 points from 27 matches. Sampdoria are four points behind third-from-bottom Hellas Verona and nine points behind Spezia, who are currently 17th in the standings. Sampdoria need to put together a run of positive results soon if they are to avoid the dreaded drop from Serie A.

Team News:

Sampdoria are likely to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Gabbiadini is set to start upfront and will lead the line for the visiting team. Leris and Cuisance will the two attacking players behind him. Turk will be in goal, with Gunter, Nuytinck and Amione in front of him in attack.

Key Factors to Consider

  • AS Roma have lost 3 of their last 5 Serie A matches.
  • AS Roma have scored 35 goals in 27 Serie A matches so far this season.
  • Sampdoria have conceded 44 goals in 27 Serie A games so far this campaign.
  • Sampdoria have lost 3 of their last 5 Serie A games.
  • Paulo Dybala has scored 9 goals and given 6 assists in 20 Serie A matches so far this season.

Conclusion

Sampdoria are in dire form at the moment, and it is hard to see them pick up even a point against AS Roma at Stadio Olimpico in Rome this coming weekend. Although Jose Mourinho’s side are not in the best of form at the moment, they do have the better team and should be able to bag all three points from the match in the end.

Prediction: AS Roma to win 2-0
