Olympique de Marseille and AS Monaco will face each other in Ligue 1 this weekend. The match between Les Phocéens and Les Rouge et Blanc will be held at Stade Vélodrome and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Saturday.

Olympique de Marseille

Olympique de Marseille are one of the biggest and most historic clubs in the world. They have won the Ligue 1 title as many as nine times in their history, but their last success came in 2009-10 before bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain began their domination of French club. Marseille finished second in in the league table in 2021-22 and in 2019-20.

Marseille are third in the Ligue 1 table at the moment at the moment with 42 points from 19 matches, five points behind leaders and bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain. Les Olympiens are not expected by many to win the league title this season, but their fans are loving how things are going at the moment.

Igor Tudor’s side will head into the match against AS Monaco at Stade Vélodrome on the back of a 1-0 win against Rennes at home in Cope de France. It came after a 3-1 home win against Lorient in Ligue 1 and followed a 2-0 victory over Troyes on the road in the league.

Team News:

Marseille will line up in a 3-4-3 formation against Monaco. Dogan Alemdar will stay in goal behind a three-man defence of Christopher Wooh, Joe Rodon and Arthur Theate. Amine Gouiri will lead the line for the hot team and will be flanked by Benjamin Bourigeaud and Desire Doue.

AS Monaco

AS Monaco are one of the biggest clubs in Ligue 1 and won the title as recently as 2016-17. They won the championship prior to that in 1999-00 and finished second in the standings in 2017-18. Things are going well for Monaco at the moment.

Like Marseille, Monaco are doing extremely well in Ligue 1 at the moment and could end up in the top three of the table this season. Philippe Clement’s side are fourth in the league table now with 37 points from 19 matches, 10 points behind leaders and defending champions Paris Saint-Germain and five points behind third-placed Marseille.

Monaco will head into the match against Marseille this weekend on the back of a 7-1 hammering of Ajaccio at Stade Louis II in Ligue 1. It came after a 2-2 draw with Lorient away from home in the league and followed a defeat to Rodez on penalties in Coupe de France.

Team News:

Monaco are likely to end up in a 4-2-2-2 formation against Marseille. Alexander Nubel will stay in goal behind a four-man defence of Vanderson, Axel Disasi, Guillermo Maripan and Caio Henrique. Wissam Ben Yedder and Elise Seghir will be the two forwards.
