Villarreal and Valencia will lock horns with each other in La Liga this week. The match between the Yellow Submarine and Los Che will be held at Ciutat de València and is scheduled to kick off at 3:15pm UK time on Saturday.

Villarreal

Villarreal are an established club in La Liga who tend to challenge for the European places in the table on a regular basis. The Yellow Submarine have played in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League in recent seasons and are well known outside of Spain as well.

The Yellow Submarine finished seventh in the La Liga table last season and are aiming to better it this time around. Villarreal are ninth in the La Liga table at the moment with 21 points from 14 matches, just three points behind Athletic Bilbao, who are currently fourth in the standings and occupy the final UEFA Champions League spot.

Villarreal will head into the match against Valencia on the back of a 2-1 victory over Guijuelo away from home in the Copa del Rey. They hammered Santa Amalia 9-0 on the road in the Copa del Rey on November 12, and it came after a 1-0 victory over Espanyol away from home in the La Liga.

Team News:

Pepe Reina is set to stay in goal. Kiko Femenia will start at right-back. Gerard Moreno, Raul Albiol, Dani Parejo and Etienne Capoue all could start.

Valencia

Valencia are one of the biggest clubs in Spain who have won the La Liga title, played in the UEFA Champions League and in the UEFA Europa League. However, things have not always been great for them in recent seasons, and they are now facing a huge challenge to getting back to the days when they used to challenge the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona for the title.

Los Che finished as low as ninth in the La Liga table last season, and they will be keen on doing better this time around. Valencia are 10th in the standings at the moment with 19 points from 14 matches, just three points behind fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao.

Valencia will head into the match against Villarreal on the back of a 3-0 win against Real Betis at home in La Liga. That match was played on November 10. It came after a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad on the road in the league.

Team News:

Edinson Cavani could start for Valencia against Villarreal.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Villarreal have scored 15 goals in 14 La Liga games.
  • Villarreal have conceded 10 goals in 14 La Liga games.
  • Valencia have scored 22 goals in 14 La Liga matches.
  • Valencia have conceded 15 goals in 14 La Liga games.
  • Edison Cavani has scored 4 goals in 10 La Liga games.

Conclusion

Villarreal and Valencia are massive clubs and have good teams, and there is a very good chance that they will cancel each other out.
