West Ham United and Aston Villa will face each other at London Stadium in the Premier League this coming weekend. The match between the Hammers and the Villans is scheduled to kick off at 2pm UK time on Sunday.

West Ham United

West Ham United are in real trouble at the moment and could get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season. David Moyes’s side are actually a good team and have some wonderful players, but the London club have underachieved this campaign and have been really dire in the Premier League so far this season.

The Hammers are 16th in the Premier League table at the moment with 23 points from 25 matches. West Ham are only a point above the relegation zone. Moyes’s side are not scoring enough goals and are conceding far too many goals for their liking.

West Ham suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion away from home in the Premier League last weekend, It followed a 3-1 loss at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford in the fifth round of the FA Cup and followed a 4-0 hammering of fellow relegation candidates Nottingham Forest at London Stadium in the Premier League.

Team News:

West Ham United will have Michail Antonio leading the line. The striker suffered a knock against Manchester United in the FA Cup tie, but he is fit now. Maxi Cornet could also start, while Angelo Ogbonna has recovered from his medial ligament injury. Right-back Vladimir Coufal is a doubt.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa were struggling when Steven Gerrard was sacked earlier in the season, and things have improved a lot under former Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery. The Villans are no longer in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season and could end up in the top half of the Premier League table this campaign.

Villa are 11th in the Premier League table at the moment with 34 points from 25 matches. The Villans are level on points with former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea in 10th and are as many as 12 points above the relegation zone.

Emery’s side will head into the Premier League match against West Ham United at London Stadium this coming weekend on the back of a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Villa Park in the league. It came after a 2-0 victory over relegation candidates Everton away from home at Goodison park and followed a 4-2 loss at the hands of Arsenal at Villa Park in the Premier League.

Team News:

Aston Villa are likely to start in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will start in goal, while Ollie Watkins will lead the line for the Villans. John McGann, Emi Buendia and Jacob Ramsey will be the three attacking midfielders behind Watkins.

Key Factors to Consider

  • West Ham United have won 1 of their last 5 Premier League matches.
  • Aston Villa have won their last 3 Premier League games.
  • Aston Villa have scored 31 goals in 25 Premier League games so far this season.
  • West Ham United have conceded 33 goals in 25 Premier League matches so far this season.
  • Ollie Watkins has scored 8 goals and given 4 assists in 24 Premier League games for Aston Villa so far this season.

Conclusion

Playing at home will give West Ham United an advantage in their Premier League match against Aston Villa, but it is hard to see Unai Emery’s side drop all three points at London Stadium this coming weekend. The Villans are doing much better than the Hammers, and there is a very good chance that they will eke out a win in London and pile further misery on David Moyes’s side.
